Matthew 5 1-12 Christian character
Reread the Beatitudes with yourself in mind. How well or how poorly do they describe you?
1. Poor in spirit
“Blessed are the poor in spirit…”
- You admit your need for God
- You don’t rely on your own strength
How it looks today:
- You pray first, not last

- You don’t act like you have it all together
Ask yourself:
- Do I depend on God or only on myself?
2. Those who mourn
“Blessed are those who mourn…”
- You feel sorrow over sin and brokenness
- You don’t ignore what’s wrong
How it looks today:
- You confess sin honestly
- You care when others suffer
- You don’t become numb to evil
Example:
- Feeling grief over injustice instead of scrolling past it
3. The meek
“Blessed are the meek…”
- You have strength but keep it under control
- You choose humility over pride
How it looks today:
- You don’t need to win every argument
- You listen before speaking
- You treat others with respect
Question:
- Do I react or respond calmly?
4. Hunger and thirst for righteousness
“Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness…”
- You deeply want what is right
- You pursue God’s standards, not culture’s
How it looks today:
- You seek truth in Scripture daily
- You reject what you know is wrong
- You care about justice and integrity
Example:
- Choosing honesty even when it costs you
5. The merciful
“Blessed are the merciful…”
- You forgive instead of holding grudges
- You show compassion
How it looks today:
- You give people second chances

Ask:
- Do I treat others the way I want God to treat me?
6. Pure in heart
“Blessed are the pure in heart…”
- Your inner life is clean and focused on God
- You avoid hidden sin
How it looks today:
- You guard what you watch and think about
- You act the same in private and public
- You pursue integrity
Example:
- Choosing not to engage with content that corrupts your mind
7. Peacemakers
“Blessed are the peacemakers…”
- You actively bring peace, not just avoid conflict
How it looks today:
- You resolve conflict instead of fueling it
- You bring people together
- You speak truth with grace
Example:
- Helping two people reconcile instead of taking sides
8. Persecuted for righteousness
“Blessed are those who are persecuted…”
- You stand for what is right, even when it costs you
How it looks today:
- You don’t compromise your faith to fit in
- You accept criticism for doing what’s right
- You stay faithful under pressure
Question:
- Would I still follow Jesus if it cost me socially or financially?
How to apply this daily
- Pick one beatitude each week
- Practice it intentionally
- Reflect each night:
- Where did I live this out?
- Where did I ignore it?
- Memorise short parts of each one
- Turn them into prayers
